Macs are easier to live with than PCs, but when they go wrong they’re often more confusing. Apple stores are a 45-minute drive plus a wait, and the Genius Bar will only tell you so much without sending it off. I’ll come look at it for free.

What I’ll send to Apple
I’ll be straight with you: if it’s a logic board failure on a recent MacBook, or anything still under AppleCare, you’re better off going to Apple. I’ll tell you that for free instead of charging you to find out. Same for batteries on the newer glued-in models. Apple’s flat-fee battery service is usually the better deal.

Common questions
- How much does Mac repair cost?
- Diagnosis is free. A tune-up for a slow Mac is $99, a MacBook screen is $129 plus the screen, and moving everything to a new Mac is $149. See the full price list. You get a flat price before I start.
- Is it worth repairing an old Mac?
- Often, yes. An older Intel MacBook or iMac that has slowed down can usually get a few more years from an SSD upgrade or a cleanout, for much less than a new Mac. If the repair costs more than the Mac is worth, I’ll tell you.
- Should I take my Mac to Apple instead?
- For anything under AppleCare, logic board failures on recent MacBooks, and batteries on newer models, Apple is usually the better choice, and I’ll tell you so for free. For slow Macs, full storage, iCloud and Time Machine problems, and older Macs Apple won’t touch, I come to you.
- Can you fix a Mac that's slow or shows the spinning beachball?
- Yes. It’s usually a nearly full drive, too many apps opening at startup, or an old hard drive in an older Mac. I find the cause and fix it, often in one visit.
- Can you help with iCloud and Time Machine?
- Yes. I fix iCloud photos and contacts that won’t sync, sort out duplicate Apple IDs, and set up Time Machine and check that it’s backing up.
